Thyroid Gland Disorders
Thyroid gland is a gland that makes and stores hormones which helps to regulate the heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and the rate at which food is converted into energy.
Thyroid hormones are very essential for the function of every cell in the human body. They help to regulate the growth and the rate of chemical reactions or metabolism.
The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland present in your neck, in the front part of the neck below the thyroid cartilage (Adam’s apple). It produces two hormones that are secreted into the blood – one is thyroxine (T4) and the other is triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones are necessary for all the cells in your body to work normally.
A healthy Thyroid Gland uses the ingested iodine from the iodine enriched foods to produce thyroid hormone. The thyroid hormone regulates the body and brain growth and development, body temperature, energy levels and metabolic functions.
There are the specific kinds of thyroid problems or thyroid disorders like Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism and Goiter.
