Lord Sri Krishna is the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu who is worshiped as a supreme God in Hinduism. Lord Krishna’s life marks the passing of the Dvapara yuga and beginning of the Kal yuga.
According to the tales, Lord Krishna was born in the Yadava clan in Mathura to Devaki, a queen and her husband Vasudeva.
Devaki has a brother named Kamsa is a tyrant. At Devaki’s wedding, Kamsa heard a divine voice from the sky – akashvani, that the 8th child of Devaki would kill him.
Worried Kamsa went to kill Devaki, but Vasudeva fell on knees and begged for mercy. Vasudeva promised to handover each child born to them to Kamsa.
Kamsa imprisoned Devaki and Vasudeva in dungeons. The Kamsa arranges to kill all of Devaki’s children. Kamsa destroyed 6 children of Devaki and Vasudeva by smashing their heads to prison walls.
When the seventh was born, Vasudeva managed to smuggle it out and replace it with a born dead child that they found elsewhere. This child was smuggled across the Yamuna River to Gokul and then gave it to Vasudava another wife Rohini. This child was names as Balarama.
In the ninth year, when Devaki was expecting her 8th child she was worried a lot that the Kamsa will kill this child also.
When Lord Krishna is born as 8th child, Vasudeva secretly carries the infant Krishna away to the Yamuna, and exchanges Krishna him with Yashoda’s daughter.
When Kamsa tries to kill the newborn child, the exchanged baby appears as the Goddess Yogamaya. She warns him that his death has arrived in his kingdom, and then she disappears.
Krishna grows up with Nanda and his wife, Yashoda, in Gokul near Mathura. Two of Krishna’s siblings namely Balarama and Subhadra, also survived. The Krishna’s birthday is celebrated as Krishna Janmashtami. The Story of Lord Sri Krishna’s Birth
