The Bhagavad Gita is also known as Srimadbhagavadgita, ‘The Song of God’ which is often referred to as the Gita, is a 700-verse Hindu scripture that is part of the epic Mahabharata. Bhagavad gita is considered as the one of the holy scriptures for Hinduism.
The Gita is a narrative framework of a dialogue between Arjuna and Lord Sri Krishna on the battlefield of Kuruksetra in 3102 B.C.; just prior to the Mahabharata war. The Bhagavad Gita is a synthesis of Hindu ideas about dharma, theistic bhakti, and the yogic ideals of moksha. The bhagavad gita text covers Jnana, Bhakti, Karma, and Raja yogas.
The Bhagavad-Gita consists of total 18 chapters. Each chapter is known as a yoga, the science of the individual consciousness attaining communion with the Ultimate Consciousness.
The first 6 chapters have been classified as the Karma Yoga, which mainly deals with the science of the individual consciousness attaining communion with the Ultimate Consciousness through the actions.
The middle 6 chapters have been classified as the Bhakti Yoga, which deals with pertaining with the science of the individual consciousness attaning communion with the Ultimate Consciousness by the path of devotion.
The last 6 chapters are the Jnana Yoga, which are primarily concerned with the science of the individual consciousness attaining communion with the Ultimate Consciousness through the intellect.
