Importance of Insulin

Pancreas makes a hormone called insulin, which lowers the level of glucose in the body. insulin is released into the bloodstreams to reach in different parts of the body and provide them the energy to function. Taking Insulin regularly with proper diet controls blood sugar levels in diabetic patients. Novo Nordisk is the world’s largest producer of insulin.

Diabetes Treatment Using Insulin

For diabetes treatment insulin therapy is often used. Type 1 diabetes make little or no insulin and type 2 diabetes don’t use insulin efficiently. This situation leads to high blood glucose levels in body, kidney damage , nerve damage and even blindness. Insulin therapy helps to keep proper blood sugar and prevent from other complications.

Insulin Types

Intermediate-acting insulin: This type of insulin keeps glucose levels from rising too high by helping the body to use the glucose. This insulin starts working approximately 2 to 4 hours after injection.

Short-acting insulin: This type of insulin prevents blood sugar spikes after having food. This Insulin works much faster than the intermediate-acting insulin do but for short period of time. This insulin starts working approximately 30 minutes after injection.
