Bhagavata Purana or Srimad Bhagavatam

The Bhagavata Purana, is also called as the Srimad Bhagavatam or Srimad Bhagavata Mahapurana or Bhagavatam. Bhagavatam, is one of the puranas of the eighteen great Puranams, which is composed by Veda Vyasa in Sanskrit. ‘Bhagavata’ means the ‘follower or worshipper of Lord Vishnu’.

Bhagavat Purana or Srimad Bhagavatam contains 18,000 verses in the 335 chapters and also consists of 12 subdivisions of books, where each one is referred to as Cantos. The 12 books all together explains the complete history of the Vedic culture, and also the stories of the Lord Vishnu and his incarnations. Srimad Bhagavatam has the collection of stories known as the Puranas.

Lord Vishnu we know him by the names of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna. The devotees are a part of Krishna’s reality and are also called as bhagavata – ‘the followers of Krishna’ when they are in pure devotion.

Bhagavata Purana

The Bhagavata Purana, discusses a wide range of topics such as cosmology, astronomy, legend, genealogy, geography, music, dance, yoga and culture. As the Purana begins, the evil forces have won a war between the devas and asuras (demons). Krishna, first makes peace with the demons, then understands about them and then creatively defeats them, which brings back hope, justice, freedom and happiness as per many legends.

Bhagavata Purana which asserts that the inner nature of Krishna and also the outer form of Krishna, and that is what rescues the universe from the evil forces
